Rent an (electric) shared bike from Donkey Republic in the 9292 app

In the 9292 app, you can find and rent bikes from Donkey Republic. This is convenient if you are travelling by public transport and do not want to walk too far from the starting point or to the destination.

Donkey Republic's (electric) shared bikes are located in various cities in the Netherlands. These bikes can be used by different users. Through our collaboration with Donkey Republic, you can easily rent a shared bicycle via the 9292 app.

How to rent a (electric) shared bike in the 9292 app

  1. Open the 9292 app.

  2. Click on the menu-icon at the top left of the homescreen.

  3. Tap on 'Renting nearby'.

  4. On the map and at the bottom of the screen you will see the available shared bikes near you.

  5. Tap on a Donkey Republic bike.

  6. Are you standing next to the bike? Then tap on 'Rent now'. Do you still have to walk to the bike? Then you can reserve it in advance. Then tap on 'Reserve'.

  7. Then, follow the steps in the 9292 app to unlock the bike.

  8. Have a nice ride!

Loosen chain lock

Does the bike also have a chain lock? You can remove this yourself after the main lock has been unlocked. The chain lock can be stored in the tray of the luggage carrier while riding.

Are you returning the bike? Then first secure the chain lock before following the steps below.

Please note – You can only rent one bike at a time with the 9292 app. Do you need multiple bikes? Then download the 9292 app on the phone of each person who needs one.

How to stop renting your shared bike

  1. Take the shared bike to a rental location (these are outlined in blue on the map in the 9292 app).

  2. Tap 'Lock' in the app.

  3. Follow the steps in the app to lock the bike.

  4. Tap 'Return'.

  5. Payment stops after returning the bike.

You can cycle everywhere with your bike. Please note that you can only return your bike to a return location (these are outlined in blue on the map in the 9292 app).

How to lock the shared bike during your rental period

Do you want to lock the bike for a while, but still use it again later? For example, because you want to go into a shop? Then tap 'Lock' in the app and follow the steps given.

Make sure you do not click 'Return'. That will stop the rental of the bike.

Frequently asked questions

You need an internet connection to unlock or lock the bike. Has your phone been stolen or has the battery run out during the period you were using the bike? Please contact us on 088 - 076 06 25.

There are a number of possibilities for why the lock is not opening:

  • Sometimes there is nothing wrong, but the connection has simply been lost. Try again. Maybe it will work now!

  • The payment has not been completed correctly. If the payment is successful, you will receive a message telling you to walk to the bike and then click on ‘rent now’.

  • You are too far away from the bike. You can only click on ‘Unlock’ when you are next to the bike.

  • You are next to the wrong bike. Look for the bike with the same name you see on your phone screen.
