Why is this temporary strike happening?
The trade union is protesting against the cabinet's plans to cut funds on social security and pensions. The FNV states that the strike applies not only to public transport employees, but to everyone in the Netherlands. The union had previously issued an ultimatum to the cabinet, which expires on 25 May 2026.
The strike scheduled for Wednesday, 24 June, can still be called off. The cabinet has until 25 May to scrap the plans to raise the retirement age.
