Nationwide public transport strike

The strike is over. It will take until around 11:00 a.m. for train, bus, tram, and metro services to return to their normal timetables.

Latest update: Wednesday 24 June 2026, 8:48 AM

Most operators expect public transport services to return to their normal timetables by around 11:00 a.m.

Please note – Due to the warm weather, fewer NS trains will operate on some routes after the strike has finished.

Why is this temporary strike happening?

The trade union is protesting against the cabinet's plans to cut funds on social security and pensions. The FNV states that the strike applies not only to public transport employees, but to everyone in the Netherlands.
