Frequently asked questions about the 9292 travel planner

Are you planning your trip in the 9292 app or on the 9292 website? In both cases, you use our travel planner. Find the answers to the frequently asked questions below.

Questions about the settings of the planner

This can happen. We can give you some tips that might make it easier to find the correct address:

  • Is it a common street name? Enter the place name first and then the street name. Then you know for sure that you have found the correct address.

  • Is the above method not working? Then enter the postcode of the address you want to go to.

Do you not have an address for the location? Then search for the place name of your destination. In large cities, the app always gives the central station as the final destination. Is there no station? Then the app or planner will instead select a central point in the place of your final destination.

The 9292 app is not allowed to use your phone's GPS data without permission. You must give permission for this yourself. If you give permission, the 9292 app will receive your location. This way, the travel planner can easily plan a trip from your current location.

If you do not give permission for the use of your location within the 9292 app, the app will not be able to find out where you are. You will then have to enter your starting location yourself in the departure field.

The 9292 app uses this information to plan your journey from your current location. We do not use this information for other purposes. It is not saved or stored.

This allows you to plan an accessible journey. This is convenient if you have difficulty walking, are a wheelchair user, are blind or visually impaired, or if you are deaf or hard of hearing.

The planner will take the accessibility of your journey into account. For example, it will add extra time for a transfer. You will also travel via stops and stations that are marked as accessible.

All information about accessible travel with public transport.

Did you activate the option 'Walk less'? Then the planner will look for a route from the stop that is closest to the starting point, and to the stop that is closest to the destination.

This way, you reduce the walking distance from the departure point to the departure stop, and from the final stop to the destination.

As a result, it may take you longer to travel to your destination, or you may have to transfer more often than you would if you did not use this feature.

Questions about the generated journey

The 9292 planner always looks for the routes with the quickest travel time. Sometimes the quickest travel time is a journey where you have to walk a bit further. This can be for the following reasons:

  • Departure and arrival locations are close to each other – If the starting point is close to the end point, a walking route is automatically mapped out for you.

  • The route via a different departure or arrival stop is faster – Sometimes the travel time is faster if you travel via a different stop, even if you have to walk a bit longer. This can be because there are more buses, trams, or metros on the other route.

Walk less

Would you like to walk less when heading to your destination? You can turn this on by clicking on 'Walk less' in the planner under 'Options'.

The planner then looks for a route from the stop that is closest to the starting point, and to a stop that is closest to the destination. You will then reduce the walking distance from the departure point to the departure stop, and from the final stop to the final destination.

This may mean that you will be on the road for longer, or have to transfer more often.

There may be several reasons why a travel advice given by the 9292 app or planner is different than you might have expected.

The advice may be different for the following reasons:

  • The advice gives a different departure stop – The travel planner always looks for the route with the shortest travel time. As a result, a different departure stop may be selected than you expected.

  • There is (un)planned construction work – Always check your travel advice shortly before you leave. This way, you can be sure that all of the information in the app about (un)planned construction work will be up to date.

  • Not every means of transport runs at the same time every day – The timetable is not the same every day. A different date and/or time can therefore affect your route.

The 9292 planner always looks for the route with the fastest travel time. Sometimes, the fastest travel time is a journey where you have to walk a bit further.

Choose 'Walk less'

Would you like to walk less when heading to your destination? Go to ‘Options’ and click on ‘Walk less’.

The planner then looks for a route from the stop that is closest to the starting point, and to a stop that is closest to the destination. You will then reduce the walking distance from the departure point to the departure stop, and from the destination stop to the final destination.

This may mean that you will be on the road for longer, or you may have to transfer more often than you would if you did not use this feature.

Is there a planned disruption to the timetable? For example, because a stop is inaccessible due to construction work? In that case, alternative transport is often provided, or the bus, tram, or metro will take a different route. You will also receive a notification in your travel advice. That way, you will always stay informed of any changes!

In the 9292 planner, your journey typically starts and ends with a bit of walking from the starting location to the stop/station, and then from the stop/station to the final destination.

Are you starting your journey by bike? Then the planner determines a point where you can cycle to and then transfer to public transport. It takes into account:

  • The need for secure bike parking at the point where you transfer to public transport.

  • A maximum cycling distance of 5 kilometers.

  • The planner plans the quickest possible route, with as few transfers as possible.

This may mean that the route of your journey is different when you start or end by bike compared to when you choose to walk.

No, when planning your journey with the 9292 planner, it does not account for the possibility of taking your bike on public transport.

On many buses, bikes are not allowed. On most trains, bikes are allowed, but you do need a special train ticket for it. Read all about taking your bike on public transport here.

There are several reasons why this can happen:

  • Construction work – Sometimes there is unplanned construction work that we are not aware of. That is why it is not included in the travel advice.

  • Time of planning – You may have planned your trip a few days in advance. Sometimes, the timetable changes shortly before the trip starts, or there might be unplanned construction work. Therefore, always check your route just before departure (at least 1 day in advance). This way, you know for sure that the travel advice is correct.

  • Timetables vary per day and time – The timetables vary per day and per hour. Have you booked for Tuesday morning at 10:15? Then you cannot assume that the bus will also leave at quarter past the hour in the afternoon (for example, at 14:15), or that the bus will also leave at 10:15 on Sunday. So, always plan your trip for the right time and the right day.

Questions about public transport vehicles

The 9292 travel planner always looks for the route with the fastest travel time. As a result, the bus, tram, or metro line you are looking for may not be included in the advice. In that case, another bus, tram, or metro will be faster to get you from A to B.

Do you want to look up a specific bus, tram, or metro line? You can do this in the following ways:

  • Choose your means of transport – Select the means of transport you want to travel with under ‘Options’. This can help to highlight your desired bus, tram, or metro line.

  • See which lines depart from a stop – Do you know which stop you want to depart from with the bus, tram, or metro line? You can look up this stop on the website or in the 9292 app. Here, you can see what time the various buses, trams, or metros arrive at this stop.

Yes, that is possible! Go to ‘Options’ while in the 9292 planner and uncheck the box behind ‘Transport with surcharge’. You will now not receive any travel advice that includes the Intercity direct.

Do you want to travel with only one mode of transport? Or do you want to exclude one of the transport modes? Under 'Options' in the travel planner, you can indicate which transport modes you want to travel with.

By default, all options are enabled.

Please note – Have you disabled one or more transport modes? Then you may receive no or fewer travel options. Do you want more choice? Then select all transport modes.
