Do you have to apply for or activate travelling on account?
If you already have an OV-chipkaart with one of the new NS season tickets or a Voordeelurenabonnement (off-peak fare ticket) dated 6th September 2010 or later, then these have already been provided with travelling on account at NS. Therefore you don’t have to apply for or activate travelling on account.
If you bought your OV-chipkaart at another OV-company or via www.ov-chipkaart.nl, you need to adjust your OV-chipkaart once only to travelling on account at NS.
One of the reasons is that you have to indicate whether you wish to travel first class or second class. This can be done via NS.nl or customer service. After that you have to check in and out at the gates.
